Day 1
Cusco to Upis (Hot Springs): We leave Cusco early in the morning and drive for about three hours through stunning highland scenery to the Andean village of Tinqui, at the foot of the Cordillera Vilcanota. This marks the beginning of our trek. In the afternoon we will hike to the thermal springs of Upis, where we set up camp. You may relax in the warm waters with views of Ausangate towering above.

Day 2
Upis to Laguna Ausangate Q’ocha: Today we cross pass two high passes. After a steady climb of around 2.5 hours we reachthe Arapa pass (4850m/15255ft). Skirting the glacier, we continue past the shimmering waters of Lake Jatun Puqa Q’ocha before ascending again to the Aprechata Pass (4900m/16,076ft). Along the way we encounter turquoise lagoons fed by glacial meltwaters. We descend to camp beside the spectacular turquoise Laguna Ausangate Q’ocha.

Day 3
Laguna Ausangate Q’ocha to Jampa: We wake to the first light bathing the snowcapped peaks. Today’s challenge is the Palomani Pass (5200m/17,060ft), the highest point of the trek. The ascent is relatively steep and the altitude makes for a slow pace, but from the summit we enjoy breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains of Puka Punta and Tres Picos. From here a long descent through the broad valley of Finaya Pamp, with its herds of alpacas and llamas, brings us to our next campsite at Jampa.

Day 4
Jampa to Pacchanta (Hot Springs) Following a mountain stream, we ascend gently towards the Q’ampa Pass (5,000m/16,404ft), where sharp-eyed trekkers may spot vizcachas (Andean chinchillas). On clear days, the great peak of Salkantay (6,272 m) appears on the horizon. We descend through alpine valleys past a series of five beautiful glacial lagoons until we reach the community of Pacchanta. Here we can once again soak in natural hot springs while gazing at Ausangate.

Day 5
Pacchanta to Cusco: In the morning we make a relaxed 4-hours hike back to Tinqui where we say farewell to our trek team. Our vehicle will be waiting for us to take us back to Cusco. arriving by late afternoon.

- Quadruple tents to be used by two people, allowing more comfort and more space to store backpacks.
